Insurance for Illinois home services and home health agencies

The Illinois Department of Public Health requires a certificate of liability insurance with every home health, home nursing and home services agency license application. Our Schaumburg team builds that program and the workers' comp behind it.

What Illinois licensing requires

Section 245.90 of the Home Health, Home Services, and Home Nursing Agency Code states that a license application must be accompanied by a Certificate of Insurance documenting minimum liability coverage of $1 million per occurrence and $3 million aggregate. The rule applies to home health, home nursing, home services, home nursing placement and home services placement agencies. Placement agencies' client agreements must also say who is responsible for workers' comp and liability coverage.

Workers' comp for Illinois caregivers

Illinois requires workers' compensation from your first employee. Home health workers are usually classified under NCCI code 8835, and office-only staff under 8810. Illinois insurers apply their own multipliers to NCCI loss costs, so comparing carriers matters. Knowingly going without coverage can bring fines of up to $500 per day with a $10,000 minimum.
