How to estimate your premium
Payroll divided by 100, times your class rate, times your experience modification. A home care agency with caregivers in 8827 and office staff in 8810 pays far more for each caregiver dollar than each office dollar, so reporting office payroll in the right class can cut the bill noticeably. The statewide average advisory rate for 2026 is $1.65 per $100 of payroll.

Frequently asked questions
What is class code 8810 in California?
8810 is Clerical Office Employees: staff who work only in an office doing clerical tasks. It's one of the lowest-rated classes, so getting office staff into 8810 instead of a field class can lower your premium significantly.
What class code is home care in California?
8827(1) covers home care services and 8827(2) covers nursing care in private residences. Office staff who never visit clients are usually classified separately under 8810.
Where can I find the rate for my class code?
The WCIRB publishes advisory pure premium rates for every class, approved each year by the California Insurance Commissioner. Those cover expected losses only; insurers add their own expenses and apply your experience modification, so your actual rate varies by carrier. The fastest way to see a real price is to get a quote.
Why do some construction trades have two codes?
California splits several trades by hourly wage. Higher-paid employees fall in a lower-rated class because the same injury costs less per dollar of payroll. Employers must keep payroll records proving the wage.
